Top Fifteen Movies of 2012

by Alex Hajna

It’s that time. The time where everyone makes their top ten lists, and none of them matter, because they’re all just one person’s opinion (polls excluded). So, naturally, I’ve done one of my own. It consists of my favorite movies of 2012. Not what you think should be on the list, but what I think. Not what should be at the Oscars (although some will be), but what I think were the best of 2012. They are merely my favorite films of this past year. The movies I enjoyed the most. Now that I got that disclaimer out of the way...

The norm is to make a top ten list. Well eff that. This year was the one of the best years for movies in all of my life, so I’m doing a top fifteen. Is that cheating? Maybe. But ten is just too damn hard. There were movies I didn’t want to put into my top ten, but I just couldn’t exclude them, either. These movies damn well deserve to be on a list.

Hit the jump for the list.

Judge, Jury, and All Around Fucking Awesome

by Scott Speegle

Judge Dredd. Oh boy. The anomaly that keeps getting movie adaptions despite being a character seemingly so unfit for the Hollywood movie treatment. I've really dug Judge Dredd for awhile and while I've only recently dived back into the character, I definitely have a soft spot for the deadpan lawman. Going into this new movie reboot I've had feelings of both excitement and fear. I've been really excited to see how the serious take on the serious character plays out but also I've had nagging fears that this installment will be the final indicator that American audiences overall are just plain apathetic to Dredd on the whole.

Hit the jump to read whether my fears are founded or if the movie kicks mega ass. (Spoiler alert: it kicks mega ass)

NWC Figure Fraction TURTLEMANIA: TMNT 2012 Donatello

Hello all, Geddy Cahoon here after a brief pseudo-hiatus to once again give my verbose thoughts on various plastic playthings. One of the good things about running your own website is that you can kind of come and go as you please in a sense when things get hectic or whatever in your life. I'll admit I took advantage of that over the past few weeks, but now I'm prepared to get back into the swing of things and review a toy a week once more. Only difference is, Figure Fraction will now be updating on Thursdays due to a wrestling-related commitment I now have to honor each Tuesday.

This week, I bring you what could conceivably be the final edition of TURTLEMANIA here at NWC, a review of the TMNT 2012 Donatello. Why is this possibly the final edition of Turtlemania, you ask your monitor? Well like many things, I've grown bored with the idea of themed reviews each week. I'd rather be looking at varied things from my collection than have to punish myself by reviewing nothing but Turtles for the next two months. Plus these reviews tend to get a tad redundant.

However, I almost always finish what I started, so I'm at least reviewing the last of the 2012 Turtles before calling it quits on Turtlemania. Of course, with the new cartoon debuting in two days, my interest in TMNT could be re-piqued, and Turtlemania could very well go on.

But for now, let's just dive right into my review of the TMNT's resident geek, Donatello!

Figure Fraction Delay

Hey all, Geddy here with a quick update. The Figure Fraction has been delayed until tomorrow or possibly later in the week due to a family emergency. Thanks for understanding, sorry to anyone looking forward to it.
